Tis the Season for Collaboration

It’s December Lovers….Whew Chile. 2020 has been a A L O T!!!! Even though this has been a tough year, I will say the love and support from my friends has been amazing. It’s amazing on how this journey of blogging, I have made some amazing friends. One of which is Jessica (@missjae1908 on Instagram) who is one half of The Brunch Beat. We met on Snapchat and shared our love of skincare, clothing, and all things blerd. It’s been a match made in friendship ever since.

Sometime back, Jess did something called the 12 Days of Masks during the Holidays. She would pick a mask, try it out on Snapchat and show the results. I loved the idea so much that I asked could I participate with her and we started sharing it on Instagram. This year, we wanted to really share and promote it, and get yall involved too!!! Starting this Sunday, on Instagram we are going to pick a mask a day and share our results. The best part is if you decide to try one out with us, just use the hashtag #12daysofmasks and tag us (@styleoversize & @missjae1908) and we will share!! Tis the season to share, and this is a just a cute and fun way to share with you all.

Jibri Loungewear

Now of course it wouldn’t be a collaboration without a mini photo shoot. Like I said, we share a love for a lot of things so I was excited when Jess decided to get a piece from Jibir. I have been a fan of Jibri for years and have several pieces which I love and shared on the blog. When Jibri dropped a grey loungewear set, I just had to have it, and Jess loved it as well so we were like let’s shoot it together! Of course we are going to put our own spin on the set. Since this was loungewear, we both said we were going to wear sneakers. Now of course we could have dressed it up and wore some cute shoes, but these days I am gravitating towards my sneakers and flats, no heels of any kind.

I wanted to go classic 90’s style with my set, and paired it with one of my favorite sneakers the Air Max 95 Essential. I have loved this sneaker and I am happy that Nike is re-releasing them in the classic colorways as well as new combo’s. I am wearing a kids size 7 (which works for a woman’s 8.5) and this is canvas & leather combo sneaker. The Jibri set is a Size 2, but I could have sized down to a 1 since it’s on the slouchier side and stretchy. The great thing about Jibri is that you can get this customized, so if you have your measurements and need certain things (ie more length in the legs or shorter, she can work with you). I am leaning towards getting the black and if I do, it will get the smaller size. I wanted to keep the palette simple, so I wore my white moto from Eloquii, and this greyish blue & white headwrap from the Wrap Life. Also, I was able to get my hands on a Kashmir VIII Clutch. I have been eyeing them for a while, and happy that I pulled the trigger and got the customized mixtape bag. The clutch is a great size to hold all the essentials- wallet, keys, phone, mask, wipes and sanitizer.

Jess wore her Jibri set (her’s is a size 4, but could have worn a 3) with a Woman Within denim jacket adorned with her favorite pins. Her hat is from Old Navy, and her sunnies are from Forever 21. Her sneaker of choice was the Nike Space Hippie. Let me tell you about these sneakers. First of all they are super comfortable. Like walking on clouds comfy. Second, they are made with recyclable materials which makes them sustainable which is awesome as well. I have a pair in neutral, and they are great. Added bonus, just found out that Grey is one of the Pantone Colors of 2021!!! So excited that my favorite color is going to be the focus for the upcoming year. Also, since I already have a lot of grey, I am in style!!!!! LOL

Are you excited for our collab??? Let me know if there is a skincare product you are interested in me trying?

Muah Lovers!!!

Daytime Shine

I have always loved sequins. My love for them started when I started taking dancing lessons. The end of the season performances required such colorful sequined costumes. I loved the extraness of it. Outside of dance recitals, you didn’t see too much of sequins except for the Holidays. Now, sequins are not reserved for just the Holidays,- where them whenever you want. I know I do…lol.

When it comes to shopping these days, I have been gravitating towards items that I can easily wear in the house as well as outside. Since I don’t have to dress like I used to for work, finding cool items like these sequin joggers, are a happy medium. I am wearing a size 1X and they have ample room in the thighs and the waistband is stretchy. I do wish that all joggers/sweatpants have drawstring even if the waistband stretches . Over time all stretchy waistbands give way and having the drawstring just ensures a continued great fit. Don’t let the fanciness of the sequins fool you, these are very comfortable. When styling these joggers, I thought it would best to show how I would wear them casually, cause lets face it, we all are dressing more casual these days.

Anthropologie Plus

Since the joggers are fancy, I figured for the rest of my look I would pick items that are a fancier versions of the classic tee and sneakers. I went with the Drama Shoulder Tee (size 18) which has been a huge hit with a bunch of retailers. I have seen the tee on so many folks and the silhouette looks great on everyone . Now that it is fall, I am starting to see long sleeve versions. That would definitely be fancy tee to wear to your Zoom meetings.

While keeping with the theme of wearing items with a twist, I went with my zip up Jordan 1’s. The green and the light pink in the sneakers really brings out the colors in the sequins. All that was needed was my oldie but goodie pouch from Zara.

And remember, just because something has sequins in it, doesn’t mean it’s only for the holidays or nighttime. Have fun with it, wear them how you see fit. If you are not ready for sequin pants, try a top like a sequin tee or a duster. Do you rock sequins during the day? Sound off in the comments.

WFH

Decided to share how I have been adjusting to working from home. Prior to COVID 19, I would work from home on Friday’s. It was a nice and much needed break from the office and more importantly my commute (90 minute commutes can take a toll on your body & spirit), so I was not new to working from home, but going from 1 day to 5 is different. Even though now I have less distractions, the lack of people can take a toll. Human beings are social creatures, so the distancing from one another can be rough for some. I’m an only child, so I am used to spending a good amount of time alone, so what works for me is carving out time to work on my to do list, and leaving some time to help others on my team that are new to the area. I think I have found a good balance without feeling overwhelmed.

In the beginning of this, I literally was just in pj’s staying in my bed. I had to stop doing that because it was not working for me. Don’t get me wrong, my pj’s are comfy, but to go from waking up at 6am and getting dressed to just wearing pj’s didn’t motivate me. I was just going through the motions. Now I am getting up around the same time everyday, getting dressed and tackling a to do list of no more than 4 items for that day. It keeps me accountable, but gives me the grace to take some much needed breaks. Some days I forgo breaks, but if I go a day where I didn’t take one, I make sure to get up from my desk 2-3 times the next day to rest my eyes and get some much needed stretches in. Don’t let you being at home fool you, breaks and days off are still needed!!!! In addition to breaks, having something simple as a second monitor and a back support cushion have helped as well. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed especially when you have 5 windows open in addition to your email account and everything just feels like its on top of one another. For me having the second screen just helps me tackle tasks that require me to shift back and forth in less time.

To get back to a sense of myself, I needed to get dressed, now this does not mean I am wearing dresses in the house, but finding items that are comfy and multipurpose. I work better when I’m comfortable, when I’m in pjs all I want to do is sleep. While on Dia & Co’s site, I was checking out all their athletic wear, cause if there is one thing yall know about me, is that I love athleisure. It gives you the flexibility in a myriad of ways. Let’s break it down

  1. Most athleisure items are made with spandex and soft fabrics- which means breathability and stretchy comfort.

  2. You can easily dress up your look with cute accessories for those Zoom meetings. My go to accessory is a headband/headwrap.

  3. When you are taking that much needed break, you can go for a walk or do a quick workout online, and then come back and continue working.

When it comes to my athleisure wear, I look for colorful pieces. Color brightens up my mood, and we all need a boost these days, so when I saw this bright coral lightning top I just had to have it. I love that its brighter like on the neon reddish side. I just paired it with the matching leggings and I am ready to do some deep meditation, writing these blog posts, purging, and Zoom meetings.

I will not be going back to the office until later on this year, so I am always on the look out for items that can work inside & outside of the home. Dia definitely has what you need to tackle WFH, or just chilling at home. Their new arrivals are soo cute, better head to their site before they are all gone.

Kicking It

I have always been a sneaker girl. There was a period of time where I was wearing my heels and living that girly girl life, but I am back to my roots. Don’t get me wrong, a good pair of heels can change your life, but a good pair of sneakers will soothe your soul. Nike has been releasing a lot of retros with fun new colorways, and I have been loving them. One of my favorite sneakers of all time is the Jordan 1. It’s a simple sneaker, but its simplicity gives it versatility that you can wear it with your favorite dresses, jeans, or sweatsuits with ease. These days, dressing is what you make of it. Use it to express your personality. The Jordan 1’s I am wearing are the Mid Lightbulbs. Anything colorful that I can wear with a bunch of items is definitely added to the closet. There are two new colorways dropping next week that are on my list, and fingers crossed they will be mine!!

Eloquii Faux Leather

If I see a cute faux leather piece, I am going to buy it. I must. With the temps warming up I knew I could get good use out of these faux leather tie shorts (they were bought right before the Rona shut down outside). On a breezy day, I could wear these with a hoodie and sneakers, or dress it up with a strappy sandal and a cute top. I always get a 18 in my shorts to ensure that I have room in the thigh. When you carry weight in your thighs and butt making sure you have enough room in shorts is key. Since I was going for an edgy fun wearable look, I paired the shorts with another faux leather item- a crop tank also from Eloquii. My top is an 18/20. I wanted it to fit without being overly tight. When the temps are rising the last thing you want is to have on a faux leather crop top that is tight. It will stick to your body and will be a pain to get off. Underneath the crop top I wore one of my favorite bras from Elomi to add a cage like effect.

I love mixing masculine with feminine so with this look pairing a checkered blazer and the sneakers with the faux leather pieces was a win-win. The Veronica Beard Houndstooth Blazer plays off the colors in the sneakers and it all ties together with the black base of the top & shorts. If you have not heard about Veronica Beard, she makes these amazing blazers. She also makes other clothing items, but her blazers are her signature. The price tag is steep ($600+), but I found this one on sale for $250. Lately, I have been looking for pieces to add to my wardrobe that are timeless and versatile. There are times where I am willing to spend to a little more on an item because I know I will have it for years to come. This was one of those purchases. I completely understand that not everyone wants or can spend that much one piece, so I found a dupe on sale less than $50.

With the changes in what is necessary to carry in these times, I rotate between my backpack and my new duffle from Dagne Dover. Don’t get me wrong, a mini bag is great, but when you need to carry a tablet, wallet, sanitizer, mask, chargers, camera, mini makeup kit, you need something that carry a lot without a lot of bulk. This seasons colors are soo good, that when I had the chance to snag this lime medium duffle 25% off I hopped on it immediately. Dagne Dover has become a favorite of mines when I started to travel. My first purchase was the large duffle bag in a dusty pink camo, which is great for a weekend trip or as my carry on for when I am flying. The pockets alone allow you to carry so much within one bag with ease. The medium is great to use as my day to day bag, I rotate between this one and my medium Dakota backpack from them.

I really loved how my outfit turned out. It’s effortless, fun and a bit sexy. With all that is going on, it was nice to throw on an outfit and feel good. Not every day is going to be a good one, but enjoy the good ones when they happen. Later lovahs!!!
