Ladylike

While reading my September issues this week, I saw Kate Spade's Fall ads. I love Kate Spade's ladylike charm, and it was the inspiration for today's post. Kate Spade ads are always pretty and polished with just a hint of posh. Immediately when I thought of what to wear I went with this Pleated Dress from Forever 21. It's lightweight and the hunter green color is great color to wear as we start to transition into fall. Another reason why I like this dress is the tie belt. I am not the biggest belt person, but the tie belt can easily change the dynamic of the dress. You can wear like I did with the belt to help define your waist or go sans belt to wear it loose. You can wear this dress to work, to happy hour, to a late night date night with ease, and then remix it for the weekend. A must have for any lady is a great handbag, and I went with the Tyra Zip Tote from Fashion to Figure. It is roomy (there's plenty of pockets), and it comes with a strap if you want to use it as a shoulder bag. The jade color of the handbag provided a nice contrast against the hunter green. I have been playing around with colors within the same family as a way provide some depth. Usually my go to is a pop of neon with a pastel, but I love how this turned out. When it came down to what to wear on my feet, I grabbed my animal print flats. I love these flats from Louise Et Cie (these were first featured in my NSale post a month ago). You can never go wrong with animal print. It goes with everything and it takes your outfit up a notch. What is your go to when you are feeling ladylike? Sound off in the comments. Muah!!

Now & Later

Summer is winding down (I can not believe its the middle of August). With all the great clothes coming up for fall there was a late summer collection collaboration from Garnerstyle & Rebdolls. This nautical inspired collection was filled with stripes, cool skirts, and an amazing wrap dress. I loved soo many pieces from the collection, but I wanted to buy items that I can easily wear into fall. I went with the On Deck Crop Top, because there are so many ways I can wear this easy striped top with all my summer clothes as well as the ones I have for fall. I went with the 2X which worked out perfect for me because even though it it stretchy it is still fitted.

NOW

For me the best outfits are the ones I don't plan. With the gorgeous weather I paired On Deck with my Ponte Circle Skirt from Eloquii. I am big fan of ponte (its comfortable and wrinkle resistant) and with it being white I was able to capture the nautical feel of the collection. This is a great easy going skirt, I wear it all the time, and its currently on sale. I went simple with my accessories, my silver DV by Dolce Vita flats (which have been a summer staple for the past two summers), flower sunnies from Lane Bryant, and my pendent. My purse is my oldie but goodie from Coach.

LATER

This is my go to outfit for fall. I always loved khaki's (must be to due to working at the Gap as a teen). These are new to Lane Bryant and are called the Softest Chino. These fit great and they are true to their name. If you are looking for a pant that is easy going, definitely give these a try. For a little print mixing, I wore a tortoise shell necklace that I picked up from the Baublebar sample sale earlier in the spring. My booties are from Dolce Vita, I have had these for a while, but they now have an updated version. My purse is from Dooney & Bourke. If you have not noticed, I am a big fan of their bags. I love classic shape purses that I can dress up or down with my ever changing wardrobe.

These are just two versions of what I would wear with this shirt. For date night I was thinking of a blue bodycon skirt with some cute pink heels. Have you found any items that are transition worthy?

Casa Azul

This weekend my neighbor invited me to go to the Bronx Botanical Garden to check out the Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, & Life exhibit. The exhibition was based off of Kahlo's home garden in Mexico City called Casa Azul. If you ever seen Kahlo's work it was not only self-portraiture (to me she was the first selfie queen), but tied to nature and her Mexican heritage. I have been a fan of her work since high school. I was schooled on all things Kahlo from my photography teacher. So when I saw the ad on the 22 bus for this exhibit, I knew I had to see it. The Bronx Botanical Garden used photo's as well as the real Casa Azul (it's one of Mexico City's biggest attractions) to create a replica of her garden she created with her husband Diego Rivera. I took tons of pictures which you can check out below. There were cacti, jasmine, tuberose, fruit salad plants and so much more. There was also a desk set up similar to Kahlo's art studio that was created in conjunction with the garden for inspiration. In addition to the garden, there was a showcase of some of her work. There was so much to see, we spent at least 2 hours just admiring the garden as well as the adjoining attractions. I also visited the Rose Garden, the Rain-forest, Desert (which included tons of Cacao trees- it smelled soo good), and we also went on a mini tour of the entire grounds. The exhibit is up until November. Great place to go on a chill Saturday afternoon.

Great weather mixed with lots of walking calls for a great pair of sneakers. I went with my oh so comfortable Nike Air Rift's. Rifts are in my top 10 favorite sneakers of all time (alongside Air Max 95's, Jordan 11's and Air Force 1's). I love the fun punchy color, and these are great for walking because it was originally designed as a running shoe. With my wonderful kicks I wore Eloquii's Rose & Stripes Crop Top. I love this top and was able to score it during Eloquii's warehouse sale when tops were on sale for $15! My crop jeans are from Harper + Liv. I wore these in my post Feeling Blue (In A Good Way). These crop jeans are great, they come up high on my waist so even though I was wearing a crop top I was covered. I must reiterate how much I love these jeans. I have had these all summer and they have yet to stretch out. Great fit! Click on the link asap because these are now on sale. Abstract

I have a deep appreciation and love of the arts. I took ballet, played instruments, listened to all types of music, and went to museums to see all of the great art NY has to offer. When I saw this dress on Eloquii's site, I just had to have it. The print reminded me of all the all the modern era art I have seen growing up. Also, it has a graffiti vibe that takes me back to my roots in the South Bronx. In the summer, I love to grab an item, put it on and be out the door. Summer dresses are low maintenance, and can easily achieve a look that has you pulled together with the least amount of effort. The tee shirt design of this dress is perfect for warm weather because you do not feel so confined. I do love me a good bodycon, but there are days when I just want to take it easy. I did have to go up a size so that I would have more room With the print and color that is not to be missed, I decided to go all out and another pop of color for my shoes. My ankle tie flats are from Boden, and were featured in my Score of the Week. The tangerine color really tied the whole outfit together, and the ankle tie did not rub at all. My satchel is from Dooney & Bourke and this has been my go to bag of the summer. If you are in the market for a mid-size bag that does not sacrifice style for room, look no further. FTF Denim Launch

Last week I had the pleasure of attending Fashion to Figure's Denim Event at their corporate office. The event was to showcase their newly re-launched denim line. As with any great event there were cupcakes, champagne, goodies, and more importantly lots of denim. They had samples of their four new fits for us try on so that we can give our opinions on the fit.

I first tried on The Jegging. These are the most comfortable jeggings I have ever tried on. They are super soft and stretchy. These come in sizes 0-3. I went with a 2 since I am size 16 (size 18 could fit the 2 as well). I had room throughout the thighs and hips and they come up high enough that I could wear these with a crop top and not worry about them falling down. Next, I tried on The Boyfriend. On me they are not as loose as I would like (like in the picture...lol), but the fit and rise are pretty good. The light distressing makes them great for work and play. I tried on a 16 and 18. The 18 was too big in the waist for me. The 16 was a better fit for me, but it this makes them more of a skinny boyfriend versus other styles that are looser. The Skinny is a definite must try. The rise comes up a lot higher than a lot of denim I have tried on in the past. I went with a 16 in these as well. A major call-out was that they wanted to ensure consistency in their sizing. There has been plenty of times I have tried on jeans from the same company, and ended up having to buy different sizes due to the different fits. This was not the case here. In all of the jeans the 16 worked the best. I did try on The Bootcut, and the rise was higher similar to that of The Skinny. The bootcut was a little long on me, I would wear them heels. My fellow blogger boos were so nice to take some pics of me in the denim. I totally forgot to take a picture of myself in the Bootcut. SORRY!!

Fashion to Figure also had some samples of all the different styles and washes that will drop this Fall. I am in love with the leather panel and the moto's. Fashion to Figure has really taken the time to work on a classic and it shows. The new denim fits are currently on their site right now and in stores so give them a try and let me know what you think.
